Time to trust the people as Conservatives launch manifesto

13/04/2010

Robin Walker, Parliamentary Candidate for Worcester, welcomed the launch of a Conservative manifesto for 2010 which focuses on giving ordinary people more power over services, politicians and the way their country is run.

David Cameron, launching the manifesto at Battersea Power Station, said:

"Some politicians say: ‘give us your vote and we will sort out all your problems'. We say: real change comes not from government alone. Real change comes when the people are inspired and mobilised, when millions of us are fired up to play a part in the nation's future."

"Yes this is ambitious. Yes it is optimistic. But in the end all the Acts of Parliament, all the new measures, all the new policy initiatives, are just politicians' words without you and your involvement."

"How will we deal with the debt crisis unless we understand that we are all in this together? How will we raise responsible children unless every adult plays their part? How will we revitalise communities unless people stop asking ‘who will fix this?' and start asking ‘what can I do?' Britain will change for the better when we all elect to take part, to take responsibility - if we all come together. Collective strength will overpower our problems."

Robin, who has been campaigning flat out around Worcester and spent Tuesday knocking doors in the Fairfield area of Warndon and the Brickfields Road in Rainbow Hill said

"Labour's big state has failed so many people in Worcester, it is time for the big society to do better. We all want government to provide quality services and a helping hand for those who need it, but there is real anger here in Worcester about the way in which we have been let down by our politicians. Real anger among working people at the fact that they seem to bear the burden of other people's mistakes."

"Conservative plans will give people real power over schools, hospitals and law and order, we will get Britain working again and make sure that those who do work, do better. We will do this by trusting the people, something the Conservative party has always understood the need to do. Now is the time for everyone to get involved, join our campaign and get the better Britain we deserve."
