Robin Walker MP celebrated the great work of the Worcester Sixth Form College who continue to provide an excellent to Worcester’s young people.
Speaking earlier this week at the SFCA winter conference in his role as Chair of the Education Select Committee, Robin highlighted the great work of the college. As the young people of Worcester transition into adulthood it is heartening to hear that they are being given the best opportunities for brilliant qualifications.
Under Labour, the college had been promised funding to complete urgent repairs to their classrooms but were disappointed under the ‘building colleges for the future’ funding, which collapsed long before the Government who promised it did. An important lesson on the gap between aspiration and delivery.
The Conservative Government have since delivered on that funding promise and expanded science facilities at the college through a number of post-16 expansion projects and other capital grants.
He highlighted local students who have been inspired to go on to read medicine from top universities, moving from local schools to many of the UK’s world-leading universities. Similarly, he celebrated during Apprenticeship Week that we have seen real progression in the sector over the past 14 years, building a stronger, broader, and more robust pathway to work.
Robin also spoke to the number of parallels between the SFCA manifesto and the recommendations from a number of reports which had come from the Education Select Committee.
Speaking after the conference he said “I am pleased to have the opportunity today to highlight the great work of the sixth form teachers at Worcester Sixth Form College”
“As Chair of the Education Select Committee I will continue in my work to champion the work of all sixth form teachers, including supporting the call for further funding and a better shared workload to boost retention”
